TEASER: What's In Store For S&C 2019

Christmas is over and done with, it’s the start of a New Year, and the shortest nights are behind us  - which means summer is on its way! And that means S&C Festival 2019 is in our sights...

With that in mind, we thought it was time for a tasty preview of the delights that await us on Haggis Farm in Cambridge on June 15th.

S&C has grown rapidly over the past five years, evolving from a little garden party for a few hundred people to a festival hosting over 12,000 of you party goers this year.

In half a decade, things have developed: we’ve moved sites; we’ve added stages; the crowds have grown. But what we try to deliver, year on year, has remained the same - which is  good vibes, good music and a festival experience that you can’t find anywhere else.

For those of you who haven’t attended before (where have you been!?), here is a quick lowdown on what to expect...

MUSIC

MAIN STAGE

Our mainstage is a showcase of the leading lights across musical genres we have always loved, the beating heart of the S&C movement. Expect feel good anthems all day across a range of styles - spanning Afrobeats, Dancehall, UK Rap, Hip Hop, R&B, Garage, Grime and more.

This is the place where, whatever you’ve come to the festival to see, there will be something that you can vibe to. Be sure to expect the biggest names on the bill performing right here - from both past and present! Previous guests include Skepta, J Hus, T-Pain, Nelly, Shaggy, AJ Tracey, David Rodigan and So Solid Crew to name but a few.

2019 will be our biggest line-up yet
– so stay tuned to find out who’ll be gracing the S&C stage very soon…

big top tent

The Big Top tent has been a staple part of the festival since 2015. Internally, we call it the Energy Tent - because that is exactly what it is, one big party. This tent is always bursting at the seams, whoever may be bringing the fire on the decks and mic throughout the day. It’s been said that some people don’t leave once they enter - just make sure you bring a towel and water…

This is an electric environment bustling with party people getting their sweat on. Last year it was headlined by Ghetts - need we say any more - and has welcomed loads of other banging names too, including the likes of Octavian, Shy FX, Mike Skinner, Artful Dodger, P Money and Crazy Cousinz.

hangar stage

A more recent edition to S&C has been the Hangar Stage, pushing all things House/Dance and adding a completely new dimension to the festival. We have always been a believer in promoting a diverse range of genres, and after the Anchorage Beach feature we had in 2016 (what a madness that was) it seemed like a no brainer. I mean everyone likes to cut some shapes to that timeless 4x4 beat once in a while - House is an eternal call to prayer for all partiers.

Last summer we had about 2,000 ravers flicking a wrist to some huge names including Secondcity, Latmun and Max Chapman - not to mention the queen herself Heidi! Be sure to expect some serious growth here this year: we’re going big...

LOCATION

Now, what really makes S&C especially special is our hometown city of Cambridge. The location offers the surreal experience of celebrating music culture in the shadow of a world-famous academic institution, on a Polo pitch! A bit of a crazy combo right? Where else can you sit refinedly with a glass of champagne by a paddock of grazing horses, watching artists like J Hus or Big Narstie shell it down to a massive crowd of party goers?

This contrast is at the heart of what S&C is all about - Celebrate Heritage and Champion future in a nutshell, right there. We worship the musical royalty of today within a stone’s throw of Cambridge University’s regal courtyards - choosing the King of Grime’s bars over Kings College’s books. They’re a bit more suitable for a festival atmosphere, it must be said…

FOOD

An area we have always paid particular attention to is our food. We pride ourself on sourcing the majority of our traders locally, independent businesses from Cambridge and the surrounding area - and have a delicious, diverse selection, from mesmerizing Mac and Cheese to Jollof Rice and Curried Goat. We don’t skimp on quality, and have enough quantity to feed the 12,000 easy!

DRINKS

And where there’s food, there must be drink. And lots of it. We ensure that we have a wide choice of the best beverages - from locally crafted cider to top of the range vodka, lager by the bucketful to soft drink options a plenty (and even some Pimms if you fancy a special summer tipple…). We guarantee there will be something for everybody - and it’s reasonably priced too!

THE VIBE

One thing you can be sure of at S&C is an incredibly diverse crowd all with the same intention: to enjoy the music! We are always sure to push the hottest new talent, however we aren’t afraid to have fun with our line-ups and book artists who ate slightly left of field and outside of the box. If that’s a nostalgic act like Nelly or Shaggy which takes you back to yesteryear, or the feel good anthems of the House Gospel Choir, the intention is always to bring happy feelings to the festival and put smiles on your faces.

We follow our mantra ‘Celebrate Heritage, Champion Future’ and in the process, we bring you a unique mixture of old and new - contrasting veterans of their scenes with the most exciting up-and-coming artists. You really won’t find this vibe anywhere else, and S&C’s uniqueness was recognised recently in the Festicket Festival Awards in which we were Highly Commended.
