S&C 2019 PREVIEW: Line-Up (Part 1)
Here it is at last - our full line-up of amazing artists joining us on June 15th in Cambridge! We're absolutely thrilled to unveil it to you all - another signature S&C blend of the hottest new talent with past pioneers and throwbacks, the freshest flavours mixed with vintage vibes to savour.
It's our favourite line-up yet, and we can't wait to share it with you at our very special 5th Birthday celebrations in just under four months! To whet the appetite, here’s Part 1 of our musical preview, a sneak peak at the delicious and danceable delights you can expect at S&C...
STEFFLON DON
First up, top of the bill. Stefflon Don isn’t playing many other festivals this Summer so we are very blessed that she is gracing our mainstage. For those who haven’t seen her before, you’re in for an absolute treat. There isn’t any one else in the UK - and arguably the world - who delivers a live performance like she does: we’re talking dancers, fire and an unrivalled energy and stage presence to boot. If you’re near the front of the crowd, don’t be surprised if she gets you up on stage to shake a leg with her too at some point in her performance...
MS DYNAMITE
A verified legend in the UK music scene, Ms Dynamite cut her teeth as a pioneering vocalist in the Garage scene of the early noughties - before becoming an R&B/Hip Hop breakout sensation with her first album ‘A Little Deeper’, featuring that tune ‘Dy-Na-Mi-Tee’ (try reading that without singing along). She hasn’t played thoo many festivals or live shows in recent years, so we’re truly thrilled to be hosting her at S&C - a music hero of ours, a recent (very deserved) recipient of an MBE, and one of this country’s most iconic female voices. Get ready for a party-starting set featuring her own hits, classic features, and plenty of dancefloor rearrangers throughout...
SEAN KINGSTON
One of our ‘throwback’ acts for this year, there’s a special place in all our hearts for Sean Kingston. Who doesn’t remember “Beautiful Girls” dominating the airwaves when they were younger? Probably one of the first ‘viral’ pop songs of this internet age, Sean became a household name almost overnight - but his back catalogue doesn’t start and end here. Expect a proper dose of noughties nostalgia, with stirring renditions of “Fire Burning”, “Eenie Meenie” and more - the perfect soundtrack to sunset over Cambridge, with a drink in hand and your friends on hand. We can’t wait already.
MAHALIA
Hailing from Birmingham, Mahalia is a rising star in the urban community on a global scale. Since a very young age, the 21 year old has shared a stage with the likes of Emili Sandé and Ed Sheeran, signing her first major deal at 13. Her intimate voice and soft beats captivate audiences, perfectly summing up an eclectic taste of modern day soul and R&B - blending in twists of lo-fi hip-hop and reggae in her production. Don’t miss her hit tracks “Do Not Disturb” and “Sober”, which have surpassed 15 million plays on Spotify alone. This is for those of you who like to party with a smile on your face! Believe us… a Mahalia live show is not one to miss.
KEVIN LYTTLE
Responsible for one of THE biggest club anthems in the history of the world ever - the ubiquitous floor filler “Turn Me On” - Kevin Lyttle’s place in modern music culture is certainly secure, despite having been relatively quiet over the last few years. Another of our vintage vibe veterans, our very Special Guest will be sure to get you all dancing at our mainstage. This is just going to be pure fun from start to finish…
WSTRN
After their debut single “In2” dropoped in 2015, making it into the top 5 of the official charts, Wstrn have continued to bridge the gap between the streets and the commercial mainstream. They offer something very unique with Haile and Louis Rei’s distinctly different sounds and styles coming together over catchy afro-swing beats. This will light up any summer Saturday.
B YOUNG
“Jumanji”, “079ME”, “Juicy”…need we say any more. B Young came through with 3 of the biggest UK tunes of 2018, and he has some real fire in the pipeline still to come too (trust us). There haven’t been many opportunities to see him live yet as he has been working hard on new music, but be sure not to miss this set - he’s one of our brightest up-and-coming talents.
YOUNG T & BUGSEY
This dynamic duo have also delivered banger after banger, joining forces with Fredo for one of the tunes of last year, “Ay Caramba”. They’ve also got some cracking collabs with the likes of Not3s, Belly Squad and D Block Europe. S&C has got a history of special guest features on the day, so who knows who may come out to join them on stage in June. Watch this space....
FLAVA D
Flava D has experienced an almost meteoric rise to the highest echelons of the UK Bass atmosphere. One third of bassline/garage collective TQD (alongside Royal T and DJ Q), recently completing a 12 week residency at XOYO, and finally releasing a long-awaited foray into Drum & Bass on Hospital Records - it’s safe to say we’re very excited to see what she brings to Cambridge. Her live shows pack a real punch, armed with a bass-heavy arsenal.
DARKZY
Another name synonymous with the rising talent the UK Bass scene has to offer, Darkzy has been propelled into the 4x4 stratosphere, running tunes everywhere from Fabric to Warehouse Project with his most recent offering with Example smashing raves up and down the country. We’re particularly excited for Darkzy to tear the roof off the Big Top stage this year.
JIMOTHY LACOSTE
Jimothy is one of the most distinctive new voices in UK music, and is trailblazing in his own lane with his own unique style. The quirky yet impeccably fashionable 20 year old has a sound which is different to anyone that has played the festival before, but we are really feeling it for this year!
ARTFUL DODGER
There’s not much introduction needed here. The original Bo Selectas, Craig David collaborators and UK Garage generals - Artful Dodger has been a huge name in dance music since the the turn of the century, and the lads show no sign of going quiet. If you fancy a lively journey through all things garage, grime and bass from the last few decades, this is the show for you.
HEIDI
Our returning Queen of the house music scene played one of the sets of S&C 2018. Her energy on stage when she combines timeless house classics with funky feel good bangers makes Heidi a firm favourite for our ever growing Hangar Stage. Get read to flick a finger and shake a leg.
wAFF
Where to start with wAFF. He’s one of the most respected DJs in the game and just an all round great guy. He’s played on the biggest stages of them all along side the best in the business. We’re thrilled that he could make time in his busy summer schedule in Ibiza to grace our stage.
ELI & FUR
This beautiful DJ duo have been been making music together since they were teenagers and mix deep and vocal house. Most of what they play is their own material, making their sets distinctly memorable. Eli & Fur bring a new dimensions to our house stage and we can’t wait.
SNOOCHIE SHY
The scene is blessed to have an incredibly strong pool of female DJs disrupting mainstream radio at the moment, and Snoochie Shy is at the forefront of this movement. She was the first to break Michael Dapper Aka Big Shaq on radio a few years back. Since then, she has progressed to working with Radio1 and is incredibly versatile in her selections - whilst maintaining her credibility as one of the hardest out right now.
KENNY ALLSTAR
The voice of the streets. He has been instrumental in the recent success of the UK rap scene, bringing through some of the hottest acts in the game right now on his Mad About Bars freestyle sessions. In 2018 Kenny brought out the likes of Ambush to perform Jumpy on his set at S&C. Check out his latest album to see some of the other acts he’s collaborated with recently, and why his S&C set is going to breathe some serious fire.
